MAP Decentralization

Land for Life piloted the Multi Actor Partnership decentralization process in five districts of Sierra Leone with District Multi-stakeholder Platforms (DMSP) established in each district. The DMSP is comprised of representatives of the council of paramount chiefs, local councilors, academia, representatives of persons with disability (PWDs), relevant members of decentralized government officials, representative of the Office of National Security, and Women’s Leaders. The platform meets monthly and holds emergency sessions to discuss land governance issues and mediate land conflicts within their districts of operation.

The initiative also engages in forty communities within twelve chiefdoms located in the four districts of operation. Chiefdom level MAPs are also established in each of the chiefdoms. Chiefdom MAP members also mediate land conflict within their chiefdoms. They serve as a beacon of peace and hope for the unification of members of their chiefdoms by extension catchment communities.
