About Us

The Land for Life (LfL) initiative is a joint endeavour of civil society partners in four African countries (Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone). The initiative is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and by Welthungerhilfe (WHH). The Civil Society Academy (CSA) provides technical capacity development to staff involved in the initiative.

The initiative aims to contribute to the formulation and implementation of policies and laws on land governance, agricultural investments and mining that are consistent with international standards. We emphasize particularly on the human right to adequate food through responsible agricultural investments.

Land for Life Initiative is not considered a MAP in Sierra Leone, but rather a Consortium of four civil society organizations supporting the national level MAP process and rolling out the MAP process at decentralized levels.  The four organizations acting as members of the Consortium and partners are strategically located in the four regions of the provinces of Sierra Leone. These four CSOs are: the Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD)-  which is the Consortium Lead; United for the Protection of Human Rights (UPHR), Partnership Initiative for Conflict Transformation (PICOT), and the Forum for Human Rights and Development (FoHRD) which is a member organization of the Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food (SiLNoRF) as a legal member of the Consortium. These CSOs have interlacing organizational mandates and thematic focuses that are contextually relevant to the campaign for responsible land governance reform in the country.
