SIERRA LEONE TO ESTABLISH AN INCLUSIVE NATIONAL MSP ON LAND, TO BE GUIDED BY A WELL-DOCUMENTED FRAMEWORK

With funds from UN-FAO, the Sierra Leone’s National Land Commission (NLC), in partnership with FAO and their CSO partners have today, 22nd July, 2025, convened a National Level Multi-stakeholder Follow-up and Planning Meeting at the UNFAO Headquarters in Freetown.

Land sector stakeholders of Sierra Leone – comprising Government MDAs, CSOs, Traditional Authorities, local community representatives and private sector actors met to reflect on actions and recommendations earlier agreed at a 2-day Technical Workshop held in March this year.

The meeting was well attended by key sector representatives, including key representatives of the National Council of Paramount Chiefs, the entire leadership of the National Land Commission, representatives from the SLLAP Coordination Unit of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, representatives of 9 District level MSPs, CSOs stakeholders, including Land for Life.

The day’s long discussion concluded with a commitment of these stakeholders to foster a collective effort towards elaborating a Sierra Leone Multi-stakeholder engagement framework, to set up decentralised level district MSPs in the remaining five districts of Sierra Leone, which should lead to the establishment of a functional national level Multi-stakeholder Platform.

The plan also makes a commitment to fostering effective Multi-stakeholder engagement across all levels and to have coordinated resource mobilisation to support a sustainable inclusive land governance trajectory in Sierra Leone.

Land for Life Sierra Leone was represented by its Secretariat wing in Freetown.
