Pilot Phase for Customary Land Registration Launched in Pakimassagbong Chiefdom, Bombali District

Facilitated by the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning through the Sierra Leone Land Administration Project (SLLAP), three communities in the Pakimassagbong Chiefdom, Bombali District, North-East Region of Sierra Leone, came together to witness the official launch of the pilot phase for the Recording and Registration of Customary Lands.

This landmark initiative represents a significant step toward securing land rights for rural communities under the Customary Land Rights Act. On 26th June 2025, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone is expected to officially hand over the first set of land titles to the people of Pakimassagbong Chiefdom, marking a historic milestone in land governance.

Following the pilot phase, systematic land mapping and registration will continue in the Port Loko, Bombali, Kenema, and Bo districts. Civil society organizations, including Land for Life, are actively monitoring the process to ensure that the rights of all community members—especially women and marginalized groups—are fully respected and upheld.
