Land for Life Initiative Sierra Leone Launched

The launch brought together officials from government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, representatives from Civil Society Organizations, Private Sectors, our funder, Local Council Representatives, and representatives from the District Multi-stakeholder Platform. The organization was launched in front of all of these stakeholders, and attempts to establish ties with them were appreciated.

Land for Life Concludes Cross-Country Strategy Planning Workshop in Ethiopia

Since the 2022 Cross-Country Workshop in Liberia, members of Land for Life have been diligently working on putting some of the main ideas and learnings from the workshop into reality, so that a stronger Multi-Actor Partnership (MAP) Process is ensured. Following multiple online Person to Person sessions and backstopping assistance from the international team, the in-person training in 2023 was timely.

A Peoples’ Land Conference to Celebrate Land Reform Success and the Impact of the VGGT in Sierra Leone.

Given such importance of the laws to the customary people, and for the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the VGGT, the Land for Life Initiative Sierra Leone, with funding support from GIZ through Welthungerhilfe under the VGGT+10 project, collaborated with members of the Sierra Leone VGGT-technical Working Group – FAO,  Namati, Green Scenery, Transparency International, Sierra Leone Land Alliance and and other CSOs mobilized 200 customary people for a two-day regional level “Peoples’ Land Conference” in Makeni City on the 29th of May for the north and northwest regions and in Bo City on t he 31st  May, 2023, for the south and eastern regions of Sierra Leone

“Gender Equality” is one of the most acclaimed parts of the 2022 Customary Land Rights and Land Commission Acts. The new legislation strengthens women’s rights to own, access, utilize, and inherit customary land. This has addressed a long-standing issue of women not having access to land and not being engaged when land discussions with investors are conducted.
